Research objectives
The University of Sheffield wished to launch a new cross-departmental course (physics, chemistry, biology, engineering and also business studies and economics) relating to the use of solar technology in energy production, construction, agriculture, etc.
The research objectives were threefold:
To establish the feasibility of such a course in meeting the needs of industry and society;
To determine the content of the course and qualifications;
To advise on the naming and marketing of the course / qualification
The research was therefore designed to inform the launch and planning for the proposed discipline.
Methodology
The research utilised depth guru interviews with a cross section of key experts and market representatives:.
The research objectives were threefold:
Government and regulatory (e.g. DECC, Defra, Ofgem)
Consumer and business bodies (e.g. Carbon Trust, Energy Saving Trust)
Industry and Trade organisations (e.g. Solar Trades Association, Renewable Heat Association)
Academic and media
The research was therefore designed to inform the launch and planning for the proposed discipline.
Conclusions & Insights
The research provided widespread support and endorsement of Project Sunshine and provided detailed input to the planning and development of the course and associated qualifications.
